Authoria owners acquire Peopleclick: implications for the HCSC?

January 7th, 2010 by Sara Moss

Vendor management systems (VMS) are core to the human capital supply chain since they are the key connector between hiring companies and talent suppliers.

Staffing Industry Analysts reported private equity firm, Bedford Funding,  purchased one of the leading VMS providers, Peopleclick, for $100m and took over management control.

Did you say $100m?!? Wowzers! I am still amazed that Chimes sold for $80m.

I recall back to the days of other VMS purchases by software vendors:

  • PeopleSoft purchased SkillsVillage (5/3/2001) and subsequently releases the Services Procurement (s-Pro) module in SRM 8.8 (10/20/2003)
  • Peopleclick acquires itiliti to compelemt its ATS offering with a VMS (8/20/2002)
  • Taleo (then Recruitsoft) purchased White Amber to extend its ATS to include a VMS  (10/22/2003)

For the past 5 or so years, I can’t think of any other acquisitions of VMS software by talent acquisition or suite companies – perhaps they were not too inspired by the results of the acquisitions that I mention above.

Of course, there is so much more to Peopleclick’s portfolio of products. In addition to their VMS software product, their Recruitment Management System (RMS) and, of course their flagship Affirmative Action services.

It’s hard to know Authoria’s intentions post-acquisition.  The office word from their new joint website www.peopleclickauthoria.com. It has been my view that Authoria hasn’t been up to much for quite some time, so it’s good to see them making a move…..though….the official announcement lays out the “new” solution portfolio and it looks a lot like Peopleclick’s old portfolio.

pclick authoria anncmtI’m not really seeing a talent suite here or what’s sweet about this deal.  Jason Corsello has a great post on the topic.  It will be interesting to see what happens next and whether or not Bedford ties the technology together to automate more of the human capital supply chain.  Time will tell.
